Executive Summary
SlabSense sensors send data wirelessly. Receiving data requires extra hardware called LoRaWAN gateways. These are off-the-shelf devices. The pricing of indoor gateways starts from 100 EUR, while outdoor gateways retails from 250 EUR.
LoRaWAN 101
LoRaWAN is a long-range, low power wireless network designed for smart sensors. Long range means it can cover multiple acres of greenhouse area with ease. Low power means SlabSense sensors lasts over a year before recharging of the built-in battery is required.
The LoRaWAN network consists of:
- A bunch of sensors, called End Devices. The SlabSense sensor is an End Device.
- Gateways, connecting the wireless sensors to the internet. Think of it like a GSM basestation that you can install yourself. These are off-the-shelf components, like your WiFi router.
- A backend infrastructure, managing multiple gateways and thousands of sensors.
We offer a managed backend infrastucture, but we do not manufacture or sell LoRaWAN gateways.
